Finally my grail watch is back from service. :)

Yes, this humble, inexpensive Marvin was and still is my absolute grail watch and finally I received it back from Service at my watchmaker. Now that it is on my wrist I can't describe how stunning this watch is.

I mean, just look at this dial - black with sunray texture, silver indices and hobnail minute track.

The engine turned bezel adds s nice touch and I like the symmetry with the alignment of the wider grooves in line with the silver indices.

Look at these gracefully curved faceted lugs!

I mean, just look at it! I am very glad that it came with the original crown, parts for this model are absolutely Impossible to find.

The nicely framed date window is also noteworthy - just look at how the printing on the date disc also is trapezoidal. Can you imagine any modern watch manufacturer to implement a date in such a cool way?

Looks nice on the bonklip bracelet imho.

33mm is small by modern standards bit I really like the size.

Oh, I haven't mentioned the cool backstory of this watch, it was designed for and worn by KLM pilots, more or less this one is the dutch version of the Polerouter which was worn by the SAS crews.

I am so glad that I have added this phenomenal piece in my collection. While the condition is not perfect, it still has all of its sharp case edges and even the original crown, the only thing missing is the original crystal with the trapezoidal magnifier. If someone could point me in a direction where I could get one of these crystals I would be extremely thankful. But chances are low I think, spare parts for this watch are non-existant apart from movement parts. It has a very interesting Movement as well - a Marvin Cal 580 C - one of the very few inhouse calibres Marvin ever designed If somebody knows another example of the Marvin Flying Dutchman with this exact dial configuration I would also be glad to hear about it. I have seen white dials with sunray decor and silver indices, but black ones only with sunrays without silver indices so I guess my example is a very, very rare breed.

I'm indeed in love with this one. I have even bought a different (cheap and rather boring) Marvin watch with the same Calibre to have spare parts, just in case. So I can and definitely will wear this watch a lot, this will not be a "safe queen"!

It's great to hear that.

I love the way that the bezel detail continues the sunray pattern and is broken up like the dial with the indices. A lot of details to love.

Yeah, all these small details

A real conversation starter.

Indeed, but most people, even watch nerds

despite the small size.

Remarkable that your grail . . .

. . . is a watch many, if not most, would simply pass over. Marvin is a brand lost in the fog of history; they made noteworthy watches including several chronometers. Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Impressed, Art

Indeed, I have been on the hunt for this watch

for so long. The cool design with all the small details made me fall in love with this one. All about passion and dedication for finding acrate piece, zero "investment" or hype behind my love for this watch. Marvin is criminally underrated, they made some...

100% true words my friend!

This is what watch collecting should be about. I have some other grails as well like the Cartier Tank Arrondie or a classic Polerouter, but these are different compared to this watch. They are out there and several examples are offered for sale right now....
