Yes, this humble, inexpensive Marvin was and still is my absolute grail watch and finally I received it back from Service at my watchmaker. Now that it is on my wrist I can't describe how stunning this watch is.
I mean, just look at this dial - black with sunray texture, silver indices and hobnail minute track.
The engine turned bezel adds s nice touch and I like the symmetry with the alignment of the wider grooves in line with the silver indices.
Look at these gracefully curved faceted lugs!
I mean, just look at it! I am very glad that it came with the original crown, parts for this model are absolutely Impossible to find.
The nicely framed date window is also noteworthy - just look at how the printing on the date disc also is trapezoidal. Can you imagine any modern watch manufacturer to implement a date in such a cool way?
Looks nice on the bonklip bracelet imho.
33mm is small by modern standards bit I really like the size.
Oh, I haven't mentioned the cool backstory of this watch, it was designed for and worn by KLM pilots, more or less this one is the dutch version of the Polerouter which was worn by the SAS crews.
I am so glad that I have added this phenomenal piece in my collection. While the condition is not perfect, it still has all of its sharp case edges and even the original crown, the only thing missing is the original crystal with the trapezoidal magnifier. If someone could point me in a direction where I could get one of these crystals I would be extremely thankful. But chances are low I think, spare parts for this watch are non-existant apart from movement parts. It has a very interesting Movement as well - a Marvin Cal 580 C - one of the very few inhouse calibres Marvin ever designed
If somebody knows another example of the Marvin Flying Dutchman with this exact dial configuration I would also be glad to hear about it. I have seen white dials with sunray decor and silver indices, but black ones only with sunrays without silver indices so I guess my example is a very, very rare breed.
