Patek Philippe: Perhaps the main reason Patek started a few years ago to prohibit delivery of sealed watches was to discourage

flipping. But apparently an inadvertent effect of delivering sealed watches was to also encourage some buyers (like Stallone) to keep the watch in a factory fresh state of preservation. There was a part of me that felt that way after buying a 12 year old DS 5970J, but in the end I felt much more str

Patek Philippe: Hi Gordon. As far as unsealing, from my own experience I derived no pleasure from owning a double sealed 5970J.

At least if a watch is unsealed you can hold, see what it really looks like, wind it (which is good for the watch), etc. it was a very happy day when I unsealed my 5970J and started to wear it. But if Sly enjoys keeping it sealed, I certainly wouldn’t question what is best for him.

have this issue on my 5164A which also has the new style clasp. No issues with the old style.

Patek Philippe: Gordon, this an extremely well written, fair minded and factual presentation of of a problem that has caused great consternation for many.

Thierry hits the crux of the benefit and dilemma succinctly: “sustained demand which we cannot satisfy”.ADs are basically in an untenable situation - Very limited supply and both existing and potentially new clients clamoring to buy a Patek. Clearly Thierry is totally against “bundling” which he des

Patek Philippe: Welcome to the 5970 Club and if I had some small influence on your deciding to join that makes me very happy.

And yes practicality vs complexity. Definitely don’t need a 5970 to know what day of the week and month it is. The appreciation of complexity and seeing the functions in action, plus seeing the beauty of the movement as a “practical” matter can bring great joy. For me appreciation and joy are what w

Patek Philippe: Good point Patrick. Yes, I applied the literal definition of “cash”, but it is possible the dealer would be ok with a wire transfer or check

and merely wants to avoid bearing the 2/3% or so that the credit company charges the dealer.
