Question Regarding JLC Quick Release Deployant Clasps

 By: g_schroder : February 25th, 2019-12:18
Hello all -

I'm the happy owner of a 2016 JLC QP, and my wife owns a lovely Reverso - both of which employ JLC's quick release deployant clasp system. While we love both watches, I struggle constantly with one particular aspect of the JLC quick release deployant strap system. As those who are familiar will know, in addition to the spring bar quick releases between the lugs, there is also a connection between the deployant clasp itself and the leather strap. To release that connection (shown in the photo below), you push lightly on the "push here" area. It comes apart easily, however, I find it infuriatingly difficult to re-connect this part.

I've gone to the AD and asked what I'm doing wrong. Each time they show me how to reconnect it and it appears simple. However, when I get home I again struggle to connect it. So... I'm hoping there's someone here who can shed some light on the trick to re-connecting this part of the quick release deployant buckle to the strap.

Thanks!

The story of my life: it is the reason why I will replace it by a buckle [nt]

I'm glad it isn't just me! :)

The manual spring bar release between the lugs is great and easy, but it takes me 30 mins to get this one silly connection together after it comes apart. I'm fairly sure there's an angle or position it is supposed to sit in so that it comes together easily, I just don't know what that is.

The way to avoid the problem is to find the right way to open the clasp...

But I don’t want to run the risk to see it come apart...
So I will put the buckle.
Thanks for your post!

I tried once, but quickly. I will make a report on these, next time I go to the manufacture. I took some pictures of the steel bracelet, too, but lost them... [nt]

I had a similar experience. In fact my watch fell off my wrist. Luckily it fell onto my bed [nt]

Is it possible to post a video here?

I did I quick video of mine showing how it is done. To release it you press “push here” and you should be able to slide out the spring bar from the top easily. To reattach, you just do the opposite. You slide the spring bar back into place. Once it is in place you need to push the “push here” tab from behind to push it back to the original place. It is very easy once you have done it once.

Best,
David

Did you try this?

This is what you see in the bottom left when you answer to someone or want to post a new topic...

 Add images to your post
Use a previously uploaded picture

There is another solution...

When you are on Youtube, do a right click on the video you are looking at and select " copy the integration code ", then paste it in your answer or new thread.

Best,

Nicolas

Thanks for the tip Nico = )

What it looks like before you do anything.

Push into the “push here” tab.

Now the “push here” tab is opened.

This is what the back looks like when the “push here” tab is opened. Notice in the middle there is a “pin” sticking out?

From the front, take out the strap with the spring bar.

To put the strap back on. Reattach the spring bar, sliding it through the slots on both sides.

Turn it over to the other side.

Push that “pin” in the middle to close the “push here” tab back in place.

View from the back and now the “push here” tab is back into the close position.

Turn it over and it is done!

I hope this helps.

Bravo and thanks, David!!! [nt]

I am not wearing my JLC at the moment, but I will definitely take another crack at this using your images when I get home. Thank you so very much for posting this. I'm also glad I'm not the only one who has struggled with this silly little detail.

It is a little fiddly indeed

Hope everything works out for you.

Thank you again.

While I still find it a bit fussy, I was able to reduce the total time it took to change straps this morning, so I'm sure with more practice I'll continue to get better. Thanks again for your tips and quick reply.

Lifesaver

You are amazing. This is nowhere to be found in the manual etc. Now it makes 100% sense. Mine fell off and the watch hit the floor. Did not look like that piece moves at all. You are a lifesaver.

You are welcome!

Ouch is your watch OK?

Rotating side question

Anyone had the rotating side of the clasp slide out of the plate that says press here?  I was just fiddling with a strap replacement, and it pulled out so that the non spring bar was too short. It presses in but it no longer instills confidence. Was there supposed to by a collar like with a Seiko slide pin?

A lot of good information on this thread.

I went to put my Reverso on this morning and the deployant strap fell apart.

After reading everything here I figured it out. JLC has an awful design. If the end of the clasp had holes for the spring bar this would not have happened. The slots that the spring bar slides in and are locked in place by the end that says "push here" are compromised when there is play in the end of the strap.

Not taking any chances, I put on a regular clasp.
