Introducing The Best of The Hour Lounge: Vacheron & Constantin Repeater Watches

Avatar
Tick Talk
I have a confession to make to you, my fellow Vachonistas; I am a hoarder! Thankfully not the kind who lives in a house jammed to the ceiling with mouldy newspapers and stinking of cat pee; I am an information hoarder. When the The Hour Lounge, the official Vacheron Constantin discussion forum, was suddenly taken offline some four years ago I had, thanks to this small idiosyncrasy, copied many of the interesting and informative posts. Today I am pleased to launch the first in a series of repackaged articles ... ...Story

Wristscan is now live!

I actually have two stories to share regarding watches it took me forever to acquire, in spite of my fondness for them. The first one is this Minerva Pythagore Grande (38mm): I first came across it back in September 1998, just about the time I really caught the watch bug. Back then, my only good watch was a Tag Heuer diver, which I had acquired in 1996 after saving from my pay during my French National Service in Saigon. It was a sporty watch on a metal bracelet, and now that I was back in Paris and starting .....Story

An on the wrist review of the Hentschel H1 Chronometer.

Avatar
amanico
In December 2019, I had the opportunity to discover a new brand, Hentschel, during a dinner we organized with the Hentschel Team. We could see some of their watches, the H1 Chronometer, the H2 and the H2 Sport, but better, they let two watches for some 6 months to Mike H and myself, for us to live with them. Well, 3 months later, we faced an unexpected situation with the Covid and we couldn't do what we planned for them, mostly travels, but it was enough time to judge these two timepieces. I first had the .....Story

Blancpain X Fathoms: The epitome of the Fifty Fathoms.

Avatar
amanico
Which is not Fifty Fathoms anymore, as it is 300 meters water resistant. But we have, with the X Fathoms, the most technical diving watch, for sure. You immediately noticed that we have a mechanical depth gauge, here, and that it is not a first, as mechanical depth gauge in a wrist watch came as soon as 1964 with the Nivada Depthomatic, followed, in 1966, by the more famous Favre Leuba Bathy 50. You also remember that in the late 90's early 2000's we had the IWC Deep One, and, in 2006, a more technical Jaeger .....Story

Hands on review of the Rolex Explorer II 226570

Avatar
foversta
The new versions of the Explorer II were highly anticipated because Rolex had, as usual, prepared the ground well by arousing interest and curiosity through a teasing video unveiled one week before the digital edition of Watches & Wonders 2021. Because even without indicating the name of the model, the video presented an unambiguous context (with the evocation of caving) as well as the effect of the luminescence of the dial. There was no longer any doubt as to which model was involved, and April 7, 2021 became ... ...Story

Some Girard Perregaux novelties.

Here are some of the novelties. One you know, but in a new ( to me ) case and dial combination. 1/ The Vintage 1945 Earth to Sky Edition: The case is in DLC Titanium, 36, 10 x 35, 25 mm big, with a sapphire case back and a polycristalline blue dial. The movement is automatic, the well known Cal GP 3300, beating at 28, 800 vibrations per hour, and offering a power reserve of 46 hours...Story
